Cobalt-Based Alloy Rocker Arm & Valve Actuator Shaft Precision Casting
Where extreme wear, high temperature, and corrosive conditions converge, cobalt-based alloy castings stand apart. Our precision cast rocker arms and valve actuator shaft components in cobalt-based alloy (Stellite®-equivalent grades) deliver unmatched hardness, wear resistance, and thermal stability — making them the material of choice for the most demanding valve actuation and mechanical linkage applications in oil & gas, power generation, and aerospace industries.
Material Properties
- Alloy grades available: Cobalt-based alloy equivalent to Stellite® 6, Stellite® 12, Stellite® 21, or custom composition
- Hardness: 36–45 HRC (grade dependent) — exceptional resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear
- Tensile Strength: 700–900 MPa (grade dependent)
- Operating Temperature: Retains hardness and strength up to 800–900°C
- Corrosion Resistance: Excellent in oxidizing acids, seawater, and high-temperature oxidizing environments
- Galling Resistance: Outstanding resistance to metal-to-metal galling and fretting wear
- Biocompatibility: Selected grades suitable for medical and food-contact applications
Casting Process & Quality
- Process: Lost-wax investment casting for near-net-shape complex geometry
- Dimensional Tolerance: CT6 per ISO 8062
- Surface Roughness: Ra 3.2–6.3 μm as-cast; grinding and polishing available for critical wear surfaces
- Post-processing: CNC grinding of bearing journals and seating surfaces; hard facing overlay available
- NDT options: Dye penetrant testing (PT), fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI), hardness verification
- Microstructure control: Controlled cooling for optimal carbide distribution and wear performance
Key Features
- Extreme wear resistance: Cobalt-chromium carbide microstructure provides superior resistance to abrasion, erosion, and metal-to-metal wear
- High-temperature stability: Maintains hardness and dimensional integrity at temperatures where stainless steels soften
- Galling-free performance: Ideal for sliding contact applications where conventional steels would seize or gall
- Corrosion and oxidation resistant: Performs reliably in aggressive chemical and high-temperature oxidizing environments
- Long service life: Significantly extends component replacement intervals compared to stainless steel alternatives
- Custom alloy selection: Grade recommended based on your specific wear, temperature, and corrosion requirements
